Anthony Sbarra Professional Golfer
let me tell you about myself.
My family and friends call me TONY, or “COOL TONY” as I am known on the tour. I am in excellent health. I started playing golf at the age of 9. My father took me to the Gator Hole, a par 3 course in Myrtle Beach, SC while we were camping. That’s where my love of the game began. Since the first time I held a club in my hands, I have had the dream of being a Pro. Even now, each time I go to a course and stand on the first tee, I feel this is where I belong.
I played on the Varsity Golf Team all four years of high school. At the time I graduated, people with dyslexia did not get offered scholarships or go to college. I did however, become a certified Golf Instructor. I taught group lessons for the local Community Education Program for 13 years as well as giving private lessons. Now I am moving to the next level.
In 2006 when I played for half a season, in the New England Pro Tour (formerly the Cleveland Tour), the Tour President and Pro, Brian Hebb encouraged me. He said: “You have the talents to be a successful tour professional. Get more tour experience”. Former PGA Tour Pro, Jim Hallet told me to: “Put yourself in pressure situations under the gun and you will become a successful player.” These men consider me an asset to the NAGT. That reminded me of what Walter Morgan, Senior PGA Player told me when I met him. (He did not turn Pro until he was 50 years old). He said: “To make it you must practice, practice and then practice some more!” In 2007, I met Charlie Rutledge, former PGA Player. He became my mentor and offered to be my Swing Coach. I played well tee to green, but struggled on the greens. He says I have the potential to be a Winner. According to my Mom, this has been “Golf College”
